College Maths Success!

20 of our college students have competed in the prestigious annual Senior UKMT Maths Challenge – a national competition that pits Britain’s brightest mathematicians against each other in a series of challenging problems. And if you were thinking this didn’t sound tough enough, you lose marks for any incorrect answers, ensuring that only the most talented mathematicians score highly. However, our year 12 and 13 students were more than up for the challenge and in an unprecedented result, every student achieved a Gold, Silver or Bronze award!

  • 4 Gold: Robin Hough, Matt Pearson, Ben Strawbridge and Ben Crossland
  • 8 Silver: James Copeland, Aiden McCarthy, Ellen Brightman, Jack Rudolf, Charlie McPherson, Ben Filby, Ben Walster and Daniel McFerran
  • 8 Bronze: Jessica Starling, Angus Pedersen, Josh Newcombe, Jamie Cordon, Rachel Parker, Thomas Pollard, Nathan Clarke and Harry Boswell.

Our four students achieving the Gold award will be invited to a further competition only available to gold award winners, ie. the top 10% of the nation.

We are immensely proud of our talented mathematicians and they deserve huge congratulations for their efforts.

The Junior and Intermediate challenges will take place later in the year for our younger students to show off their mathematical skills. Our college candidates have set the standard; we’re excited to see if the lower school can rise to the challenge!
