General entry requirements

Toot Hill College has general entry requirements which all students must meet in order to study here.

The general college entry requirements are a grade 4 in GCSE English Language and a grade 4 in GCSE Mathematics.

There are also course-specific entry requirements which you must meet in order to study particular courses:

  • In order to study an A-Level course, you must achieve a grade 5 or above in the relevant GCSE subject(s) as outlined on the Course Guide page.
  • In order to study a vocational course, you are recommended to have achieved a grade 4 or above in the relevant GCSE subject(s) as outlined on the Course Guide page.

Please remember that the general College entry requirements for all students wishing to study at Toot Hill Sixth Form College from September 2025 onwards are:

  • A '4' or above in English Language GCSE
  • A '4' or above in Mathematics GCSE
  • In addition, our A Level courses require a '5' or above in a relevant GCSE subject

  • Information regarding any additional needs/extra support required
  • Predicted GCSE grades for all subjects (if you know them)
  • The three provisional course choices you would like to study with us

In addition, please be aware that the application process also requires you to submit a Personal Statement detailing why you would like to study at Toot Hill Sixth Form College, why you have chosen the courses you have selected, and any other relevant information that may help your application.

Toot Hill Sixth Form College values all students, acknowledges differences and will support all learners. As such, in order for us to know if and where any necessary additional support is needed, please answer the questions below. Additional information regarding your responses will be discussed further and confidentially at interview.

If you know your current predicted grades, please enter them below. Don't worry if you don't know them - you will be asked to bring a copy of your latest school report with you to your interview. Even if you don't know your predicted grades, please enter the list of subjects you are studying.

A reminder that the College entry requirements for all students wishing to study at Toot Hill Sixth Form College from September 2025 onwards are:

  • In addition, our A Level courses require a '5' or above in a relevant GCSE subject

If a student does not meet the College entry requirements detailed above, we will unfortunately not be able to offer them a place on their chosen courses in September 2025.

5. Provisional Course Options

* Please note that we awaiting updates from the Department of Education as to whether students will be able to take more than 1 vocational award alongside or instead of an A level pathway. Please do apply for the courses you wish to take. If there are changes issued by the Government, we will ensure students and parents are made aware and changes made to subject choices.

All students beginning their study at Toot Hill Sixth Form College will need to select the equivalent of three Level 3 courses, which they will study for the duration of their two years with us.

Before selecting your choices below, please ensure you have reviewed the course-specific entry requirements outlined in our Course Guide.

These three Level 3 courses can include any combination of A Levels and Vocational Courses:

  • 3 A Levels
  • 2 A Levels and 1 Single Award Vocational Course
  • 1 A Level and 2 Single Award Vocational Courses
  • 1 A Level and 1 Double Award Vocational Course
  • 1 Single Award Vocational Course and 1 Double Award Vocational Course

If you select a Double Award Vocational Course, please select this for two of the three options below.

Please be aware that in the unlikely event that a course does not receive sufficient interest at the interview stage, there is a chance it may not run; in this instance, alternative courses will be offered.

If you would like to study A Level Further Mathematics as a fourth A Level, or Level 3 Core Maths as an academic extra, please let us know in your personal statement below.

We would like to know more about you and why you would like to study with us at Toot Hill Sixth Form College. Please include below a personal statement (minimum 2500 characters, maximum 4000 characters) detailing:

  • Why you want to study at Toot Hill Sixth Form College
  • Why you would like to study the three courses selected above
  • What you would like to do after Toot Hill Sixth Form College
  • Any further information about you, including hobbies, interests, voluntary work, awards or anything else you would like to share with us.

8. Declaration

Please read the statements below, before confirming that you agree to these conditions and are happy to submit your application to Toot Hill Sixth Form College for a September 2025 start:

  • I understand that I need to achieve a grade 5 or above in GCSE English Language and GCSE Mathematics in order to follow an A Level pathway.
  • I understand that currently I need to achieve a grade 4 or above in GCSE English Language and GCSE Mathematics in order to secure the entry requirements needed for a level 3 vocational pathway. If the Department of Education changes guidelines regarding the number of vocational awards which can be taken alongside A levels, I understand that I will need at least grade 5s in GCSE English and Maths to be able to study the A levels required.
  • I am, to the best of my knowledge, on track to achieve the subject specific grades in any relevant GCSE courses as per the subject specific entry requirements detailed on the course guides page.
  • I realise that if I do not achieve grade 4s in English and Maths I will be unable to secure a place at Toot Hill 6th Form College and I will need a secure and supportive back up option.
  • I understand that submitting this application form is not a guarantee of a place, and that I will be contacted for interview, which will take place in the Spring Term.
